In need of some serious help!! :)

Hi again readers, families and friends! Since we've decided to spend the holiday season at home this year, I'm in need of some serious help! LOL! I want everyone who reads this to comment on this post, sharing your most favorite holiday (Thanksgiving and Christmas) traditions with me- be it recipes, fun crafts and/or activities, favorite holiday songs- anything! I would like this holiday season to be positive, fun, super exciting and comfortable for our little family of four, so I need all of your kid friendly traditions and ideas from you (kid friendly meaning alcohol free and super duper fun!)... now don't let me down readers! I can't wait to see what some people are suggesting! This is so fun and exciting! Oh and I wanted to put an emphasis on RECIPES, lol! I can't wait to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year, and Emma is over the moon about helping me cook, what she has let me know is her favorite thing about Thanksgiving dinner- mashed potatoes! Hehehe! Thanks for reading everyone, and for your love and support! Hopefully when the holiday season is over, I will be able to implement some of your ideas and traditions into my own little family! :) Take care until next time, and please please comment!!!

I am so excited for you hun:

My boys and I like to make Strawberry Shortcake for dessert on Thanksgiving.

I don't have a receipe per say but...

2 white cake mixes...follow directions on the box
2 Containers of the frozen strawberries in sugar
1 Large Whipcream

I bake the cakes, in a round cake pan, once the cool, the boys frost the bottom cake with whip cream, and then we add a layer of strawberries letting the juice flow over the side. Then we add the top cake, frost that with whip cream and add more strawberries...

this is REALLY REALLY good, I used to bring this for families parties.

aw, i'm excited for yas! my FAVORITE turkey day/xmas dinner dessert is APPLE CHEESE!

5 or 6 granny smith apples, cut into bite size pieces (you can add in a bit of water/lemon juice to keep them from turning brown)
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
shredded cheddar cheese - about 2-8oz bags

heat over to 350

throw the apple pieces into a 9 x 13 pan.
mix together flour & sugar and cut butter into the mixture (pea size pieces). mix it all together so you end up with a crumbly mixture. throw this mixture on top of the apple pieces.
bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.
take it out of the oven and cover the apples with the shredded cheese, then shove it back into the oven for another 10 or 15 minutes (til the cheese is melted).

pull it back out again and serve warm.

it's kinda like brown betty covered in melted cheddar cheese. it sounds gross, i know, LOL! but it's sooooooo goood! even the kids like it!

another awesome recipe is this strawberry, pretzely, coolwhippy stuff that i can't seem to find the recipe for at the moment... it's crushed pretzels/butter on the bottom (kind of like a cheesecake crust?), then layers of strawberries and coolwhip on top of that.

now my mouth is waterin, lol!!

we really don't have any "traditions" per say. we just kinda go with the flow. although we do listen to the same cassette tapes with xmas music every year when we put the tree up, and the kids do most of the decorating. DH puts the tree together, he & i put the lights & tinsel on, then let the kids go to town on it with everything else.

how exciting, sarah!!!! your girls are always going to remember the traditions you're going to start!

1) the obvious ones: baking cookies for santa (one of my friends makes rice krispies treats), carrots for rudolph, etc.

2) a new tradition that i'm hoping to start this year is santa mouse. on christmas eve, leave some cheese on your doorstep, and santa mouse will come and eat, ring the doorbell, and leave brand new christmas pj's for everyone.

3) an extra special christmas morning breakfast...something sweet and syrupy and decadent...

4) if i think of any more, i'll let you know!!

Sarah,
The pictures on the following link show the traditions that are near and dear to my heart. I was so excited to introduce Sydney to them with her 2 favorite cousins. I could see Emma now- teaching Abby and Sydney how to decorate cookies.
